Barbara Szefc is a transplant to the South, moving to
Lafayette in 2002 from New York. She has been a pet owner for
24 years and has a love of all creatures great and small.
Barbara graduated from the Connecticut School of Dog
Grooming and studied under Jenny Aurora, the former director
of the prestigious NY School of Dog Grooming. Barbara is a
weekly volunteer at a local no-kill animal shelter, where she has
worked with various dogs with different personalities. This has
only enhanced her desire to spend her life working with pets.
She is the proud guardian of 4 Basset Hounds - Daniel, Sony,
Emmie and Lizzie. All five were adopted through breed rescue
and hail from NJ, PA and Louisiana. She is also owned by 2
cats, Sweatty, a former resident of Connecticut and Sandy a
former Ragin Cajun dugout cat.
Barbara formerly worked in sales and therefore, understands
the importance of customer service. She strives to provide the
highest level of professional service, while keeping in mind the
comfort and happiness of your pet. She believes in continuing
education and in remaining up to date in the latest advances in
grooming . All breeds and mixes are welcome at Happy,
Handsome Hounds. Barbara has a particular soft spot for
senior dogs and those with special needs. She is proficient in
breed specific grooming, but welcomes customer involvement
in the final appearance of their pet. A happy pet is a well-loved
